What Can’t Be Thrown in a Dumpster? Know Before You Load

May 19, 2025

Before you rent a dumpster in Sarasota, Venice, or Port Charlotte, make sure you know what materials are prohibited in your Daddy’s Dumpsters roll-off.

Prohibited dumpster items by Daddy's Dumpsters in Florida, including oil, hazardous materials, batteries, tires, appliances, and yard or food waste.
Before you start tossing everything into your rented dumpster, it’s important to know that not all materials are allowed. Whether you're cleaning out a home in Venice or working on a roofing project in Sarasota, following local waste rules protects you from unexpected fees and keeps the job moving smoothly.

At Daddy’s Dumpsters, we follow all county and landfill regulations across Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte Counties. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you can’t put in a roll-off dumpster—and why.

🚫 Prohibited Items – DO NOT Load These
1. Hazardous Waste
Landfills won’t accept anything that poses a risk to the environment or sanitation workers. This includes:
    • Wet paint, paint thinner, and stains
    • Fuel, oil, antifreeze, and other automotive fluids
    • Pesticides and herbicides
    • Household cleaners with harsh chemicals
    • Propane tanks or gas cylinders

2. Electronics & Appliances
Some electronics and appliances contain toxic components or refrigerants that require special disposal:
    • Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units (due to Freon)
    • Batteries, and other e-waste
TIP: Many counties offer free e-waste drop-off events or facilities.

3. Tires & Car Parts
Rubber tires and certain car parts are not accepted in most landfills due to fire risk and chemical breakdown. Avoid:
    • Passenger or truck tires

4. Medical Waste
For safety reasons, all medical or biohazardous waste is strictly banned, including:
    • Sharps/needles
    • Prescription medications
    • Biological materials

5. Contaminated Concrete or Materials
Materials like concrete or soil are usually allowed only if they’re clean and free from:
    • Paint, sealant, or rebar
    • Asbestos or suspected asbestos-containing materials

Why These Rules Matter
When restricted items end up in a dumpster:
    • Landfills can refuse the entire load
    • You could face fines or disposal surcharges
    • We may have to return the dumpster or leave it on site, causing project delays

What Is Allowed?
Here are some common materials that are accepted in our dumpsters:
  • Drywall, wood, tile, and other construction debris
  • Household junk and furniture
  • Yard waste and branches
  • Roofing shingles
  • Mattresses (in some cases – call to confirm)

Not Sure? Just Ask.
When in doubt, we’re happy to help. Text us a picture or give us a call at 941-234-8713 before loading. You’ll save time, money, and hassle by double-checking what’s allowed.
